Our daughter is only two, so we can still get away with swapping her bag for a different one when she gets home.

We'll load up a bag with peanut-safe candy (which is thankfull easy enough to find where we are) and pull the ninja switch once she's back.

I came across your website one day and was very impressed. I suffer from a severe peanut allergy to the extent I cannot be around peanuts. I have had a few bad reactions... and almost died from it 2 times. I am 29 years old and the allergy is hard to deal with somedays. I can relate to your story and the struggle of decisions you have to make. I do not have children yet. I pray that they will not carry this allergy when I do. So many people do not understand the awful things peanuts can do. Some are so insensative, and sometimes plain mean. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Being able to relate to others out there who struggle with this allergy makes me feel like there is a support out there for those like me. Thank you so much for sharing your journey, it is an inspiration.

My son was just diagnosed with peanut allergy and I am putting together a letter for parents. Do you have any suggestions or an existing template? So much info on the web, I'm glad! I have joined some groups on CafeMom also.

Labeling: What else can you do besides assume anything that says "may" actually contains the allergen. Our hesitation involves allowing foods that "may" contain Tree Nuts into our house since our son has a peanut allergy. I know that peanuts are not tree nuts, but is it worth the chance? Better safe than spending the next 8 hours at the hospital...

I am so happy his first few weeks are going well! A good school can keep our children safe -- and keep us calm. Remember, little things will "flare" up , like participation in a pancake breakfast was attempted, but the mix had a "may contain nuts" label. A caring mom will forget that m-n-m's can't be in a treat, or participation in an extracurricular library read-off can NOT include home-made dessert from the librarian in the library... But, if you think the schools and others are learning and trying, you are making progress :) Kill 'em with kindness. Congrats!
